WFM Book Signing in Cherokee, IA

On Saturday, November 9th, I had the great privilege of journeying back to my hometown of little ol' Cherokee, Iowa, to participate in a fair, where I was able to meet with readers and sign paperback copies of my book.  We had another great turn out, and sold out once again of paperbacks!  (My book is available as an eBook - which you should seriously check out, as eBooks never run out no matter how many turn out at an event! :) Click here to visit that page!)

At my book table with a faithful reader and dear friend, Jonell Wittkop

I had a very special helper with me that day: my "sales assistant" Makenna (aka, my daughter) :)

Thanks to everyone who came out to support the book on Saturday! Much gratitude and respect ~ J.M.P. :)

Bridging the Gap Between Truth and Fiction #2

The book Watchmen for Morning tackles some tough humanitarian issues, such as child trafficking and illegal migration from Africa to the coast of Sicily, crossing the Mediterranean via boat to avoid detection.   Think that this is just a work of fiction?  Think again.  Increasingly, Italy has found that African refugees and child traffickers are using boats to sneak into Europe through Lampedusa, Malta and Sicily.  Additionally, just because countries like Spain and France are considered first world and modern doesn't mean trafficking isn't an increasing problem in Europe and ultimately in the US.  Still want to think it's all a work of fiction?  Maybe a better question to ask would be what should we do with this information now?  From India to China to even the United States, modern-day slavery and trafficking is alive and well.  Though the EU is trying to patrol the Mediterranean more thoroughly, the issue remains a worldwide problem, increasing at alarming rates.

There's only so much that one person can do to change the world - yet getting involved may help change the world for one!   Check out The A21 Campaign, Next Generation Nepal, The International Justice Mission, and other worthy organizations.  Even if you chose to not go with an organization, information is power - don't make it okay any longer to turn a blind eye to the suffering of others.

Book Review by Lori Thomas

The reviews are coming in, and all great! Here's from Book Reviewer Lori Thomas:

"Watchmen For Morning was a great read that I was caught up in immediately. This modern fiction romantic story has a strong global theme, with the characters fighting real world issues (child trafficking, mafia). There are also strong interpersonal relationships that make you care for the characters, and what toknow what will happen to them next. The story centers on Delaney, our heroine, who is a grad student in Italy. While there she meets Marco, and his entire Italian family. Of course this simple relationship is fraught with challenges, from the mob to infamous family ties. Nothing is as it seems for Delaney, and through it all she deals with her own issues of abandonment. The ending is fitting, and leaves the door open for more wonderful adventures for our characters. I really enjoyed this book, and had trouble putting it down. Pitkin's descriptions of the sights, tastes, and sounds of Italy and Sweden made me feel like I had visited there myself. I hope to read more from this author."

Thanks for your fabulous review, Ms. Thomas! Much gratitude and respect ~ J.M.P.

Tuesday Character Spotlight!

In the weeks leading up to the book's release, let me slowly introduce you to some of the principle characters!

Meet Matteo Angelozzi

Older brother to protagonist Marco, Matteo has always been the protector of his family since his childhood days.  If there was a bully on the playground, for example, he’d knock them down if they messed with any Angelozzi.  A trait that remained deeply a part of Matteo even as an adult, he can be seen always striving to do what was right with his own sense of justice.  Yet when he makes a big mistake, he finds himself face-to-face with a headstrong Kajsa Johannson.  Can they get over their differences in time to take down the Moretti Crime Family?

Bridging the Gap Between Truth and Fiction

Bridging the Gap Between Truth and Fiction!

In the beginning of Watchmen for Morning, we see how young Italian men "enjoy the sport and sorrow of love," as Marco Angelozzi (the protagonist) puts it. While we see some smooth operators in the story (ahem, Salvatore Rossi), both Angelozzi brothers still behave with respect toward their female counterparts. How accurately does this reflect Italian men today? Find out on today's "Bridging the Gap Between Truth and Fiction"...
